“We Saxons, we are bright, the whole world knows that! And if we are not bright, then we have disguised ourselves,” says an old Saxon proverb. Since his childhood, Frieder Bickhardt has wondered about the idea that “the Saxons” are something special. After all, it’s not just rhyming sayings that talk about it, politicians also use this local pride in their messages. After thorough research and a steady gaze through his large-format camera, he has captured various places, scenes and events in Saxony in photographs. These are places where something has happened and is still happening. Something that is and can become part of “Saxon” identity for many.

We are delighted that “Komplex : Heimat” is part of this year’s f/stop Festival of Photography. There will be 8 photographs from the work on display. The theme of this year’s festival is “Escape into the public sphere”. The group exhibition in the Sächsischer Wartesaal at Leipzig Central Station was curated by Leon Hösl and Magdalena Stöger.
