Description
A society based on solidarity needs a constant exchange between its different groups, but this is hardly ever the case nowadays. People remain strangers to each other or only exchange information in their peer groups. In “social” media, what moves politically and privately is shared, but the messages and discussions remain trapped in milieus. And in the media, too, this overall social dialogue does not take place. Many people see themselves as marginalised or even unrepresented in the reporting, but also in the normality of images in the public sphere. Populist slogans that project the blame for their own bad situation on “the others” are booming. It is becoming increasingly difficult to discuss them, because there is often no common language and no will to overcome prejudices in order to exchange ideas at eye level. We want to propose photography as such a common language and use the images to offer a way of looking at things from the perspective of the others. In order to be transformed from objects in pictures into authors and to be perceived in the competitive field of images, visual education is needed for everyone!
From March 10 to March 31, 2017, the 9 of us met almost daily to free our already created pictures from the hard drives and drawers. We got ourselves involved with each other and with our stories, themes, wishes, worries and dreams. Together we developed the exhibition ‘out of the box 9‘ which was shown from April 2nd to 8th in the project apartment krudebude. This catalogue is the summarizing documentation of our dialogue, of talking to each other about each other.
